In memory of Mike
Mike became a Hadleigh Hare when he moved to Hadleigh in 2004. Mike was a prolific runner and even at the age of 84 he was still running. He was among the better runners in the Club with a time of 2 hours 40 in the first London Marathon and times for other distances most athletes would envy. He was a regular at Parkrun and although he was aiming for an 80% grading in his 80th year he only just came short and achieved a Regional Class Level. His power of Ten is quite impressive where he features in the top ten Nationally for his age and gender. Athletes from all over the country were among some his favourite people after his family.
He was a regular feature on a Tuesday night helping with the coaching of a lady's group; using the same skills of motivation and encouragement he had used while coaching a group of international youths at Basildon AC.
Unfortunately, he fell during a Hares Club 5K series race in 2022. Because of damage to his shoulder sustained at that time and advancing Alzheimer's, to his sorrow he never ran again. His dream was to run again but unfortunately that dream was never realised, when he died quietly at home on 17th October, with his family round him.
Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time. We will miss him x
A book of condolence will be available at our races on the 24th November.
