This year we had 3 senior teams and 3 junior teams who took part in the Ekiden relay at Ipswich High School, Woolverstone. For those who don’t know, Ekiden is a 26.2 mile race run by teams of six as a relay made up of 1 x 7.2km, 3 x 5km and 2 x 10km. The course is off road, mostly flat and at a great venue.
Competing against 189 other teams, our Senior Team 1 comprised of Vicky Tapp, Tom Cowley, Steve Hunt, Joel Bamsey, Adam Chamberlin and Harriet Simm. Their combined times meant they completed in 3hrs 21 and were placed 57th.
Nathalie Hooper, Ryan Mcneil, Stuart Hunt, Glen Avis, Paul Barton and Maria Ward made up Senior Team 2 and were placed 125th with a time of 3hrs 39.
Senior Team 3 had Deborah Stewart, Geraldine Suckling, Neil Holloway, Fiona Holland, Lucy Jay and Brial Airlie running. They finished in 4hrs 19 and were placed 175th.
The Junior race has teams of 4 running and each run a 1 mile leg. With 61 junior teams our Junior Team 1 with Alex Collins, Josiah Todd, Felix Clover and Tom Davies ran a very good time of 27min 32 and were placed 25th. Second team, placed 46th, were Haydn Kilgour, Rosalie Van Aswegen, Maia Chamberlin and Jack Chamberlin with a time of 31mins 27. Our third team finished 57th with a time of 34 mins 09, comprising of Morgan Davies, Elsie Price, Freya Mcdonald and Aderyn Mcdonald.
A great team event and day out which is very well organized by Ipswich Jaffas and many thanks to Kay Oxford for organising all the Hares runners.
